Harder to Host Youth Town Hall for High School Students

September 30, 2019

WASHINGTON – Tomorrow, Representative Josh Harder (CA-10) will host a Youth Town Hall specifically aimed at giving high school students a chance to voice their opinions. As a member of the House Education and Labor Committee, Rep. Harder hopes to hear directly from students on what he can do to advocate for them in Congress. Harder's Central Valley district is one of the youngest in the country, with 27 percent of his constituents under the age of 18. Due to the high proportion of young people, the Central Valley is one of the fastest-growing areas in California.

"High school students are the Valley's next generation of leaders – they deserve a voice," said Rep. Harder. "When I taught at Modesto Junior College, I heard that millennials and Gen-Z folks have a lot of unique concerns about access to higher education, student loans, and climate change. I want to make sure that our students have their voices are heard and have the opportunity to get involved in our community."

The Town Hall is being coordinated by Rep. Harder's Multi-Cultural Community Advisory Committee, which is made up of diverse community leaders from across the district. The event will be moderated by high school students representing Stanislaus and San Joaquin counties.

In addition to posting information regarding the town hall on Rep. Harder's official website, the information has been made public on his Facebook page. Constituents who have signed up for Rep. Harder's e-newsletter program will also receive an email invitation.

During his first months in office, Harder has hosted 15 in-person town halls, as well as three telephone town halls, and a Facebook Live town hall.
