NEWS: Harder Secures $1.3 Million for New Flood Prevention Equipment in San Joaquin County

January 22, 2025

The San Joaquin Delta Region is at greater flood risk than New Orleans was at the time of Hurricane Katrina

WASHINGTON – Today, Representative Josh Harder (CA-09) announced he secured $1.3 million for new flood control generators and pumps in San Joaquin County. In 2023, communities like Acampo suffered significant flooding damage following heavy rainfall that overwhelmed existing infrastructure and flooded hundreds of homes.

“Families in the Valley shouldn’t have to worry about whether their home is going to survive the next storm. They deserve flood control infrastructure that they can depend on,” said Rep. Harder. “This funding delivers that piece of mind with new equipment to meet the challenges of the next storm, all while increasing public safety and reducing recovery costs.”

“San Joaquin County greatly appreciates Congressman Harder’s efforts to secure $1.3 million for back-up pumps and generators that will significantly enhance public safety by providing for continued water and storm drain system operations during power outages,” said San Joaquin Public Works Director Fritz Buchman.

This $1,383,069 investment was secured through the Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) government funding process and provides for the procurement of fixed and mobile generators and pumps, as well as upgrades to existing infrastructure. In addition to fighting to bring federal dollars back to the Valley, Harder has championed legislation to cut red tape and get damaged levees fixed faster.
