Harder secured an additional 500k for new Community Garden at the park

WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Josh Harder (CA-09) announced a $7 million investment in the heart of South Stockton to bring new walkways, basketball courts, and recreation and multipurpose areas to Van Buskirk Park. Harder voted to fully fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) that awarded this grant, and he separately secured funding for a 225,000 square foot Community Garden at the park.

“This is about more than pouring new asphalt and concrete – this project is a major step towards repairing the soul of a community that has felt neglected for far too long,” said Rep. Harder. “As the Valley’s sole voice on the House Appropriations Committee, I will always fight to bring the investments and block-by-block transformation that our community deserves. I look forward to continuing to work across the aisle to deliver neighborhoods that we can be proud of.”

Provided by the U.S. Department of the Interior, this LWCF grant will be used to comprehensively transform Van Buskirk Park:

  • New recreation – basketball courts, BMX tracks, skate park, and splash pad.
  • Safer paths – updated walkways and bike paths coupled with new recreational lighting.
  • Modern Amenities – new bathrooms, irrigation, and landscaping.

The project is expected to be completed in August 2030.
