NEW POLICE FUNDING: Harder Announces Federal Funding for Manteca Police Department to Hire Five New Officers
This funding will allow the Manteca Police Department to hire 5 new officers; 3 this year and 2 in 2025

Rep. Harder joined the Manteca Police Department to celebrate this new federal funding.
WASHINGTON – Representative Josh Harder (CA-9), a member of the powerful House Appropriations Committee, announced that the Manteca Police Department will receive a $625,000 COPS Hiring Program grant. This federal funding will allow Manteca’s police department to hire five new police officers. The Department plans to hire three officers this year and two additional officers next year.
“Keeping our families safe has to be our top priority and that means making sure our police departments have enough officers on the streets,” said Rep. Harder. “That’s why I’m excited to announce we’re bringing home $625,000 for our Manteca Police Department so they can hire five additional officers. Our community has been left behind for too long – it’s about time we start getting our fair share of funding to keep our families safe.”
The COPS Hiring Program (CHP) is a competitive award program through the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) that aims to increase policing capacity for local, state, tribal, and territorial law enforcement agencies. The CHP provides federal funding directly to police departments and other law enforcement agencies to hire additional career law enforcement officers. Read more about the program here.
