Rep. Harder fought to secure these federal funds for the Stockton Police Department to purchase a license plate reader (LPR) system and other equipment to fight crime

WASHINGTON – Today, Representative Josh Harder (CA-9), a member of the powerful House Appropriations Committee, announced he secured $963,000 in federal funding for the Stockton Police Department’s (SPD) Public Safety Program. Rep. Harder secured the federal funding through a Community Project Funding (CPF) grant which will be used to purchase a license plate reader (LPR) system and other equipment to protect police officers and fight crime.

“Crime has gotten out of control, and our police need more support to keep our families safe,” said Rep. Harder. “I’m glad to partner with the Stockton Police Department to get them the equipment they need to respond to crime quicker and more effectively.”

“The Stockton Police Department extends its gratitude to Representative Josh Harder for his support in improving public safety and improving the quality of life in the City of Stockton through the Community Project Fund opportunity. The earmarked funds will allow the Department to expand our license plate reader system exponentially, allowing our officers and investigators to work more efficiently on investigating crimes. License plate reader technology is a staple of the modern law enforcement agency toolbox, and this investment will impact community safety for years to come. Additionally, funds will be used to equip officers with night vision goggles to enhance officer and community safety in critical incidents,” said the Stockton Police Department.

Stockton Police officers are spread thin due to staffing shortages, and these new investments in the department will help prioritize officer safety, reduce crime, and make the department as efficient as possible. The License Plate Reader program has helped nearby communities catch multiple criminals and will help SPD quickly identify and locate dangerous criminals. This funding will also go towards other equipment for law enforcement to be able to safely and effectively respond to crimes that occur when it’s dark.

This continues Rep. Harder’s work to support the Stockton Police Department and ensure local law enforcement has the resources to protect our communities safely and efficiently.
