WASHINGTON – Representative Josh Harder (CA-10) released the following statement asking Governor Gavin Newsom to refrain from taking funds from Highway 99 redevelopment in the Central Valley and raiding funding from planned rail projects including the Altamont Corridor Express (ACE).

“Folks in Sacramento need to remember that California is more than just San Francisco and Los Angeles. The people who grow your food and manufacture the products you use every day deserve safe roads and more transportation options too – not just people in the big cities.

“Raiding funding from important local projects in the Central Valley is wrong. We pay outrageously high taxes – including for gas – and it’s time we start seeing some of the benefits we paid for. The governor needs to keep his hands off the funding we need in the Central Valley – the 99 needs to be expanded, the ACE train has to make it on the list of priority projects funded by new revenue, and not a penny of the money for high-speed rail should be taken out of the Valley."
