Harder Calls on the IRS to Expedite New Child Tax Credit Online Portal Amidst Payment Issues
Families across the country are facing delays, missing payments, and other issues with the second Child Tax Credit payment due to technical issues at the IRS
WASHINGTON — Today, Representative Josh Harder (CA-10) called on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Biden administration to expedite the creation of their new Child Tax Credit online tool after significant issues with on time payment delivery. The second Child Tax Credit payment, which was supposed to hit families' bank accounts in recent weeks, has faced significant errors and delays due to technical issues at the agency. According to the IRS, many families who received their first payment on time through direct deposit are now facing a weeks-long wait for a mailed check because of these issues. Mixed status families who qualify for the Child Tax Credit are also missing payments due to issues at the IRS.
"The Child Tax Credit is the biggest middle-class tax cut in generations, and I'm committed to making sure every family gets the money they deserve and they get it on time each month," said Rep. Harder. "Valley families are relying on this money to keep their kids fed with a roof over their head, and I'm going to do everything in my power to get this money in their bank accounts ASAP."
