Harder Applauds $8.3 Billion for Western Water Infrastructure, $1.15 Billion for Water Storage in Bipartisan Infrastructure Package

Historic sum comes after Rep. Harder led months long push for bold investments in water infrastructure

WASHINGTON — Today, Representative Josh Harder (CA-10) applauded the Senate for including a historic $8.3 billion for Western Water Infrastructure and specifically, $1.15 billion for water storage investments in the bipartisan infrastructure package. This sum comes on the heels of Rep. Harder's bipartisan letter with Republican Rep. David Valadao (CA-21) urging House and Senate leaders to include water storage investments in any infrastructure package and his continued advocacy directly to Interior Secretary Deb Haaland on the issue. As early as March of this year, Rep. Harder demanded that water infrastructure be included in any Congressional infrastructure plan.

"Since day one of these negotiations I've been consistent: this package needs to include a historic investment in water storage for it to really accomplish what the Valley needs. Today, I'm proud to say that the Senate has heard our calls and included an unprecedented $1.15 billion in water storage investments in its version of the infrastructure bill," said Rep. Harder. "The last time we made an investment like this in our water systems was over half a century ago. The internet didn't even exist at that point. It's past time we build new water storage in our community for our generation and the next."
