Harder Announces Over $90 Million in Coronavirus Relief for Stanislaus County

Modesto, CA – Representative Josh Harder (CA-10) today announced that Stanislaus County will receive between $90-$96 million through the federal Coronavirus Relief Fund. Rep. Harder supported the passage of the CARES Act in Congress, which made the money available through a new program. The county will use the funding to expand services and cover unexpected costs that have resulted from the response to the Coronavirus Pandemic.

"Our counties are leading the charge on public health, on emergency response, and they're helping people and small businesses get through this crisis," said Rep. Harder. "This funding will make sure the folks on the ground have the tools and resources they need to do their jobs and keep us safe."

"There is no higher priority for us at this time than to protect our residents, and this funding will be incredibly timely and useful," said Stanislaus County Chief Executive Officer, Jody Hayes. "We're extremely grateful for this federal assistance and appreciate how quickly the Treasury worked to provide needed funding to local governments. We look forward to working with them to further define the use of these funds in support of maintaining critical services in our community."

Counties have struggled with the ballooning costs of responding to the Coronavirus pandemic. Departments like public health, emergency operations, and workforce development have all seen massive increases in service demand since the pandemic began, incurring costs far above the amounts budgeted by counties. The investment by the Coronavirus Relief Fund will offset those costs and allow the counties to provide additional services.

Representative Harder is also working to ensure small and medium-sized cities have access to the program. Currently, only cities with a population of over 500,000 are eligible for the program.
