May 3, 2022

New funds will create 7 new affordable, permanent housing units to house homeless individuals and families

WASHINGTON – Today, Representative Josh Harder announced that the City of Modesto will receive $1,724,157 in new funds to fight homelessness. The funds will go toward building seven new units of residential housing to move individuals and families experiencing homelessness off the streets and into permanent, affordable housing.

The funds will build 1 one-bedroom unit, 4 two-bedroom units, and 2 three-bedroom units at the James St. Apartments located at 112 James Street in Modesto. Residents will also be offered comprehensive services, including case management, physical and behavioral health services, employment readiness, educational support, and behavioral health services.

“We have to do more to get homeless individuals off the streets and connected to the services they need to stay off the streets. I’m proud to announce this new $1.7 million grant to expand our capacity to move these folks off the streets and into permanent housing,” said Rep. Harder. “Living on the streets isn’t healthy and it isn’t safe for anyone. It’s time we confronted the homelessness crisis in our community head on.”
