After Harder Push, Stockton FEMA Center Reverses Course on Closure, Will Remain Open

February 10, 2023

Earlier this week, Rep. Harder called on FEMA to reverse its decision to close its Disaster Recovery Center which would have left San Joaquin Families behind

WASHINGTON – Following Representative Josh Harder (CA-9)’s advocacy, FEMA has announced it will reverse its original course and keep its Stockton Disaster Recovery Center open to continue helping San Joaquin County flood victims into next week. FEMA had originally planned to close its Stockton Disaster Recovery Center at close of business today, Friday, February 10th. It will now stay open until further notice.

After learning residents of an Acampo mobile home park are still dealing with contaminated water and unlivable conditions nearly a month after flooding throughout the region, Harder pushed FEMA to do more. Earlier this week, Rep. Harder told Fox40 that, “FEMA isn’t doing everything it can, with that center set to close Friday.”

“FEMA’s plan to pull out of Stockton early was the latest example of our community getting forgotten about and left behind,” said Rep. Harder. “I’m glad to see FEMA come to their senses and stay open as long as it takes for our families to get back on their feet. It shouldn’t have taken this much pressure to do what was right for our community.”
