Harder to Host Workshop to Help Firefighters Secure Federal Funding

August 26, 2019

Local Departments, Including Turlock, Have Been Forced to Cut Hours

Modesto, CA – In response to budget issues, Representative Josh Harder (CA-10) will host a workshop next week to help local fire departments apply for and secure federal funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). FEMA staff will be present to help departments understand the application requirements. In addition to helping departments apply, Rep. Harder will write letters of support for individual applications and stay in constant contact with FEMA.

The workshop will focus on two FEMA grants, each of which are tailored to help local fire departments meet their specific needs. The first program, the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG), helps departments purchase safety equipment, emergency vehicles, training, and procure other resources. The workshop will also focus on the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant, which helps departments hire additional staff and expand their size of force.
