Harder Calls on the Biden Administration to Address Runaway Lumber Prices
WASHINGTON — Today, Representative Josh Harder (CA-10) called on the Biden Administration to address the runaway price of lumber that’s affecting everyone across the Country, including in the Central Valley. After US Trade Representative Katherine Tai met with her Canadian and Mexican counterparts on Monday, Rep. Harder is urging the United States to continue proactively addressing lumber prices with two important trade partners in the industry. Throughout the pandemic, lumber prices have risen almost 300% across the country. In the Central Valley, the price for a single board of wood has gone from $2.99 to almost $10.
“It’s heartbreaking to hear about projects like the Sikh Temple in Turlock that can’t get built because lumber is just plain too expensive right now,” said Rep. Harder. “Our community is already seeing the price of living go up across the board, and we simply can’t afford to spend more right now. I’m calling on the Biden administration to address the runaway cost of lumber as soon as possible so the Valley can get back to building what we need.”
