Expanding the medical center’s Pediatric Unit will make it easier for kids in Stockton to get vital preventive care and check-ups

WASHINGTON - Today, Representative Josh Harder (CA-9), a member of the powerful House Appropriations Committee, announced $4 million in federal funding for St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Stockton to expand and improve its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric Unit. Rep. Harder secured this landmark investment to expand care for newborns and improve the health and wellness of children across San Joaquin County.

“As a dad to an 18-month-old I know how scary and frustrating it can be to struggle to get an appointment when your little one is sick,” said Rep. Harder. “Expanding St. Joseph’s NICU and Pediatric Unit will make it easier for expectant moms and kids to get the care they need right here in our community. We fought hard to get this money, and I can’t think of a better investment than the health and well-being of our kids.”

"St. Joseph's Medical Center is honored to be a $4 million Community Program Funding grant recipient, which will aid our upcoming pediatric unit expansion," said Donald J. Wiley, president & CEO of St. Joseph's Medical Center in Stockton. "The investment from CPF will drastically improve the health of San Joaquin Valley's children with state-of-the-art technology, allowing closer access to care for families in the local community."

This substantial funding will fuel the enhancement of NICU Pediatric services, ensuring state-of-the-art facilities and top-notch medical professionals. It will result in an expanded NICU facility that can accommodate more infants and offer specialized care for preterm babies and those with critical medical conditions. Families will have access to cutting-edge technology and compassionate health care providers who are equipped to give the highest level of care to our youngest community members. The expansion and improvement of the NICU Pediatric services at St. Joseph's Medical Center will save lives and provide comfort and support to families during their most challenging times.

This funding continues Rep. Harder’s work to expandaccess to health care, support families, and invest in the future of children in San Joaquin County.
